Weeklong Beginner's Intensive

Our first workshop is being held in Brooklyn, NY from Monday, August 27, 2018 - Sunday, September 3, 2018. Participants would leave the weeklong training session with an original, four-minute narrative audio piece, the skills to continue making stuff on your own, an understanding of the radio business, and new connections in the radio community.
The Podcast Love Weeklong Beginner's Intensive is focused on helping beginners in audio learn the elements of creating a beautiful narrative audio piece.
Participants would leave the weeklong training session with an original, four-minute narrative audio piece, the skills to continue making stuff on your own, an understanding of the radio business, and new connections in the radio community.
Days will be divided between lessons and workshops. Lessons include: story structure, securing and selecting compelling tape, how to use a recorder, interviewing technique, outlining, writing for the ear, story editing and workshopping, technical instruction in Hindenburg (audio editing software), narrating, music and sound design, and mastering/finishing mixes.
The workshop will be located at the tranquil and lovely Shambhala Yoga & Dance Center in Prospect Heights, Brooklyn, NY.
The class is led by Podcast Love founder Alex Kapelman. Alex is a professor of audio reportage in the masters program at NYU's Arthur L. Carter Journalism Institute. He’s trained staff and helped develop shows in partnership with the likes of the ACLU, Mic, and Fusion, and has edited hundreds of narrative pieces by audio professionals and students.
The workshop includes five group lunches with guest speakers, including Theo Balcomb (The Daily), Megan Tan (Millennial, Gimlet, Pineapple Street Media), Linda Holmes (NPR's Pop Culture Happy Hour), and more.*

The price of the Weeklong Beginner's Intensive is $1,500.
The price includes five group lunches with podcasts professionals (see above) and an introductory group dinner.
Participants will be responsible for their own housing, transportation, laptop computer, recording kit (rentals are available with for a small fee and refundable deposit), and a copy of Hindenburg audio editing software (a 30-day trial is available if you don't want to commit to buying).
